Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how SharpScroll (“SharpScroll,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and handles information when you visit sharpscroll.com or subscribe to our newsletter.

SharpScroll is operated as an independent research publication, not as a commercial entity collecting personal data at scale. We collect the minimum information needed to operate the newsletter and the website.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Newsletter Subscription

When you subscribe to the SharpScroll newsletter, we collect your email address. Subscription is voluntary and requires your explicit consent — we do not use pre-checked opt-in boxes. You may also optionally provide your first name if the signup form requests it. This information is stored and processed by our email service provider, beehiiv (see Section 4).

1.2 Website Usage Data

Like most websites, sharpscroll.com may automatically collect certain technical information when you visit, including: IP address (typically anonymised), browser type and version, pages visited, time spent on pages, referring URL, and device type. This data is aggregated and is not used to identify individual visitors.

1.3 Cookies

SharpScroll uses cookies in the following categories:

Strictly necessary cookies
Required for the website to function (e.g. WordPress session cookies). Cannot be disabled.
Analytics cookies
Used to understand how visitors use the site. We use anonymised, aggregate data only.
Affiliate tracking cookies
Placed by affiliate networks (beehiiv, PartnerStack, Impact, and others) when you click an affiliate link. These track whether a referred click results in a signup or purchase. See Section 4.

You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling affiliate cookies does not affect your ability to use any third-party services — it only means SharpScroll may not receive credit for your referral.

1.4 Information You Send Us

If you contact us by email, we retain your email address and the content of your message for the purpose of responding to you.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To send the SharpScroll newsletter — weekly email to subscribers who have explicitly opted in. You can unsubscribe at any time via the link in any issue.
  • To deliver the lead magnet — the Creator Software Cheat Sheet PDF sent to new subscribers via the automated welcome email.
  • To understand site usage — aggregated, anonymised analytics help us understand which content is most useful so we can improve it.
  • To comply with legal obligations — we may retain records as required by applicable law.
  • To respond to enquiries — if you email us, we use your contact details solely to reply.

We do not use your information to build advertising profiles, sell to third parties, or send unsolicited commercial emails beyond the newsletter you opted into.

3. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, our legal basis for processing your personal data is:

  • Consent — for newsletter subscription and any optional data collection. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
  • Legitimate interests — for basic website analytics and security, where these do not override your rights.
  • Legal obligation — where required to comply with applicable law.

4. Third-Party Services

SharpScroll uses the following third-party services that may process your data. Each has its own privacy policy governing how they handle data.

4.1 beehiiv (Email Service Provider)

Newsletter subscriptions are managed by beehiiv, Inc. When you subscribe, your email address and subscription data are stored on beehiiv’s platform. beehiiv may set cookies related to email tracking (open rates, click rates). beehiiv’s privacy policy is available at beehiiv.com/privacy.

4.2 Affiliate Networks

SharpScroll participates in affiliate programs operated by the following networks, among others: PartnerStack, Impact, and direct vendor programs (beehiiv, Kit, Teachable, Grammarly, QuillBot, and others). When you click an affiliate link, these networks may place tracking cookies on your device. These cookies typically expire within 30–180 days depending on the program. SharpScroll receives aggregate referral data (e.g. number of signups via our links) but does not receive your personal information from these networks.

4.3 WordPress and Hosting

SharpScroll is hosted on WordPress with LiteSpeed server software. Standard server logs (including IP addresses) may be retained by our hosting provider for security and performance purposes per their own data retention policies.

4.4 Analytics

SharpScroll may use website analytics tools to understand site traffic in aggregate. Where used, we configure analytics to anonymise IP addresses and do not enable any advertising or cross-site tracking features.

5. Data Retention

We retain subscriber email addresses for as long as you remain subscribed to the SharpScroll newsletter. When you unsubscribe, your data is deleted or anonymised from our active list within a reasonable period, subject to beehiiv’s own data retention procedures.

Website analytics data is retained in aggregate form only and does not identify individual visitors.

Email correspondence is retained only as long as necessary to resolve the relevant enquiry.

6. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Rectification — ask us to correct inaccurate data.
  • Erasure — ask us to delete your personal data (right to be forgotten).
